Essau’s Westham lift Norran trophy

Jalikassa, with a long experience in this championship got the first goal through a 28 minute penalty converted by the captain, Lamin Nyan.  The home side came back into game in similar fashion after master dribbler Lamin Jammeh was brought down in the box.  The player himself stepped up to blast the equalizer late in the game to make a shootout inevitable. When it came, Essau prevailed on  a 7-6 scoreline  and won D10,000, while the vanquished Kanuma got D7,000 for their troubles.

A happy Westham coach, Muhammad Sankareh, said:  “I am very happy today because my team brought victory to Essau after some two years when all the cups were won by other villages”.

Defeat was too much for opponent coach Sheikh Hydara, who left the scene soon after the shootout, totally disappointed..

Committee head Yankuba Marong, congratulated the community of Essau and the environs for their cooperation and understanding which led to the success of the competition.  National Assembly Member Mesbah Hydara watched the match.
