According to official sources close to the zone’s management committee the incident happened on Saturday when Istanbul was meeting Latrikunda United.

”This fan was watching so intently and passionately supporting Istanbul when suddenly he collapsed and after medics attended to him he was pronounced dead,” said Sulayman Jagne, secretary general of the Serekunda East Zone.  He disclosed that it was the medical team of the Red Cross at the field who rushed him to the Ahmadiyya Hospital where he was reported dead.

The fan was remembered in a subsequent nawettan fixture by SV Laar who turned in with black arm bands in memory of the dead fan of Istantul FC who comes from the same area with them. The opposing team on the day Latrikunda United also mobilised a strong delegation of officials and fans to pay condolences.

”This has been a very sad day for us as leaders of the zone and we have sent our vice president and other senior officials to the funeral and to sympathise with Istanbul FC and the family,” Mr Jagne said.
