The president of The Gambia Debate Society, Mustapha Kah who signed on behalf of the body commended his colleagues from the West African Debate Board including Debate Ghana Association for supporting the initiative.
He added:
“In The Gambia, the idea of debates still young and growing.It is only through the cooperation and support of international partners that critical thinking can be inculcated in the minds of the youth. I have participated in international debate tournaments and I know that based on what I have seen in other countries, there is still a lot more to be done in The Gambia,” he said.
The MoU was signed to affirm the spirit of friendship and co-operation of each Debate institution to establish enduring and mutually beneficial friendships across the West African region with other Debate Associations that share the values and aims of promoting understanding and cooperation through public dialogue”.
According to him, the MoU provides for grant of scholarship to the Debate Team of The Gambia to participate in the annual Ghana Tertiary Debate Championships. It also includes exchange visits between the two debate bodies.
