Golden Era Party Vice President Neneh Cheyassin Kebé, has questioned the credibility of Gambia Participates’ executive director Marr Nyang, citing his previous role as manager and political strategist for GEP.
Responding to the recent opinion polls published by Gambia Participates in a Standard exclusive over the weekend, Mrs Kebé who is also GEP vice president, said Nyang’s record within GEP raises “serious concerns” about his capacity to lead an institution that provides objective and impartial opinion polls.
“I have documentation to prove that Marr Nyang once worked for GEP as our political strategist and manager. He should not have done it, but he did. So if he can do it for GEP, why not for Unite or any other party that can afford to pay him?” she alleged.
She alleged that Mr Nyang was paid US$2,500 for the job. “And the reason why we severed ties with him was because we felt we were being used. He wasn’t showing up in places that we needed him. He was hiding in the background because he didn’t want people to know that he worked for us as a political strategist and manager. So once [GEP President] Saikou [Sawo] and I connected the dots, we decided to terminate the relationship after nearly six months,” she alleged.
She claimed that Marr contested the termination of his services with GEP. “So he got a lawyer and we too got a lawyer and we were going to go through arbitration but someone I and Saikou respected intervened and advised us to settle the matter out of court. So we ended up paying him a compensation of over D100,000 and there are documents to prove that too.”
Polls
Commenting on the results of Gambia Participates’ recent survey, Mrs Kebé, contended that it did not reflect the truth on the ground.
“They have been rigged. They are not realistic and they are a figment of their imagination. There is reality and there is illusion. Anybody can think and feel what they want. That is their right. I do not take the poll seriously. When I read them, I thought they were hilarious and biased because given Marr’s position he should not be working with any political party. He shouldn’t have any relationship with any political party.
“I am not going to tell the average Gambian what to think or what to say but Marr Nyang’s polls were biased and I am going to stand by that. The polls were conducted to favour an opposition and Marr knows that. This is all to create something that is not real but 5th December is coming and we will all see the truth,” she alleged.
Reaction
Mr Nyang had fended off criticism about his poll results from several parties including those in the ruling party and opposition coalitions saying his organisation acted professionally and the results where neither doctored nor skewed to favour any party.
Contacted by The Standard, Mr Nyang provided a detailed response but requested that it not be published, citing a non-disclosure agreement in the contract with GEP.
The Standard has learnt that the consultancy agreement dated 19th August 2025 was between Golden Era Party and Project and Results Consulting Company Limited.
