GUINEA TO APOLOGISE TO GAMBIA

“The government [of Guinea] will not hesitate to rectify this,” Moustapha Koutoubou Sanoh was quoted as saying.  “Guinea and The Gambia are brother countries and nothing should call this brotherhood into question.”

The Gambia government on Tuesday, December 2 criticised as ‘bizarre attitude’ Guinean government’s silence over the US$500,000 cash donation that it donated to that country’s fight against Ebola.

“Whereas the highest authorities of Sierra Leone, another sister country that received the same timely gesture of African solidarity by President Yahya Jammeh, have acknowledged receipt of the funds with gratitude, the Guinean government is yet to do so,” the statement read.

However, the Guinean minister has not stated how or when the apology to The Gambia will be made.

According to the WHO, Ebola has so far claimed 6,070 lives, including more than 1,300 in Guinea.
