Addressing the opening ceremony, Yunusa Barry, GVA president, said the objective of the tourney is part of a general scouting of young players for the national teams of all categories.
He described the event as historic as it is a first in Gambian history and thanked the sponsors for partnering the event.
The deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Abdoulie Kah, urged participating teams to take the competition seriously.
He commended the GVA for a brilliant idea. Former GVA president, Musa Cassa Taal, was honoured to lead the official opening of the tourney.
In the opening games, the Armed Forces girls defeated the Police girls 2-1, (21-17, 21-23 and 15-11) as Jeshwang boys beat Gamtel/Gamcel in two straight sets (21-18 and 21-17). The tournament continues this weekend.]]>
