The meeting held on Tuesday July 8, reviewed a number of situations concerning autonomy and good governance in sport, specifically related to GNOC.
The following is the official statement on The Gambia as posted on the IOC official website about developments in The Gambia:
“The Executive board also heard a positive update about the situation of the NOC in The Gambia whose headquarters are expected to be given back to the NOC in the coming days following a clear commitment from the Government of The Gambia. The building was seized by the police on instruction from the Government in April. This action was strongly rejected by the IOC as unacceptable interference.
“In addition, the Government of The Gambia accepted, in principle, to hold a meeting with the IOC and the NOC in Lausanne to discuss, in particular, a way to establish a fruitful cooperation and relationship in the future, based on mutual respect. The IOC will continue to monitor this situation very closely”.
