The 21-year-old versatile defender will join Swedish Allsvenskan giants Djurgården IF in January 2015 having made 49 appearances and counting for KuPS since joining in 2013.

He will move to Stockholm on a three-year contract once his spell at the Finnish Veikkausliiga club ends at the end of the season.

In an exclusive interview with Gambia Sports Online, the former Wallidan and Real de Banjul defender paid glowing tribute to the Keltamusta supporters and thanked them for their support.

“I will like to say a big thanks to the management, staff, players and fans for being there for me during my time with the club. I enjoyed my time here and I wish the club all the best in the coming seasons,” Colley told Gambia Sports Online. “I will still have great memories of the Keltamusta and they will be in my heart. Banzai KuPS!”

“I will miss the great song they always sing for me [which is] ‘Omar we love you, King Omar, we love you’, it means a lot to me and the black and yellows colors everywhere. I will have great memories of KuPS and the city, Kuopio.”

The 6ft 3in centre-back, who can also play at left-back, paid tribute to his teammates particularly compatriot Ebrima Sohna and goalkeeper Tomi Maanoja, who he shares great banter with.

“I will miss my funny and crazy teammates as they’re really awesome particularly Tomi. I will miss his jokes but also his tussles in the games because he’s shouting everywhere which is sometimes annoying.”

“I will also miss the funniest, Ats Purje, but most importantly, I will miss the boys a lot and I appreciate my time here.”

On his compatriot and fellow national team player Ebrima Sohna, Colley said: “Sohna is a great guy and teammate, he encourages me a lot and we do our communication on the pitch in Wollof, which makes it harder for our opponents to understand – that’s something I will miss as well.”

Omar will bring great pedigree to the Djurgården back line next season, which was recently boosted with some other new signings.
