Samuel Sarr released on bail

Sarr, a half Gambian, was placed in custody in late August accused of spreading false information, insulting President Macky Sall, manoeuvering acts likely to disturb public security, and attempting to undermine the morale of the people. 

In an article posted on his Facebook page, Mr Sarr, who used to run the energy company Gampower from his Fajara base, before relocating to Dakar, accused the Senegalese head of state of having illegally enriched himself. He also released a bank statement attributing to Macky Sall a balance of seven billion CFA in 2007, while the latter was prime minister. 

The former energy minister, who describes himself as an “eternal Wadist”, ‘is on the steering committee of the opposition PDS.

Meanwhile, shortly after his release from prison, Mr Sarr a devoted Mouride, went to Mbour to visit Sheikh Saliou Mbacke son of Serigne Saliou his marabout for his support during his incarceration. It is reported that the marabout had admonished him not to attack the regime upon his release from prison.
