The national president of Unite party, Ebrima Dibba, has labelled political and social commentator Pa Njie ‘Girigara’ as the devil incarnate.
Mr Njie, a supporter of President Barrow’s NPP, had released a widely circulated audio in which he stated that the Unite candidate Talib Bensouda, will not contest the 5th December election and could end up in prison if he does not change his political trajectory.
In response, Dibba warned Njie to desist from making incendiary statements that could “set the country in flames”.
He stated: “Where we are at this moment, two months before election, you have your contender, we have our contender, we are vying to take over the country in the election, and you are talking about imprisoning [Talib]! We are hopeful that we will win the election and you are talking of banning us! I have not heard it from the mouth of anyone, but from your mouth. You are Satan. Let that talk be buried. If anyone tries to do that in this country, he will have to kill all of us. Let them build more prisons.”
Dibba called on his party militants who have been perturbed by the talk of banning Bensouda to continue with their campaigns saying the government has not made any formal statement and Pa Njie ‘Girigara’ was making his wishful comments.
“Rally behind your leader, redouble your efforts and Allah willing on 5th December, Talib Bensouda will be our candidate, and victory belongs to Unite and Talib,” Dibba stated.
Unite campaign manager MC Cham Jnr addressing party supporters said that the report stated that if you are served with a notice of adverse finding you can go to the court of appeal within 90 days.
He said the report did not ban Bensouda or held him liable for criminal recommendation.
He accused Pa Njie ‘Girigara’ of peddling falsehood and things he did not comprehend.
Cham urged his party members to engage Gambians and avoid being distracted.
“This is all propaganda. Everyone is fighting Mayor Bensouda, be it the NPP and its allies or the UDP and its allies. God willing Taib Bensouda will go to election and will win the election,” Cham stated.
