ZONES WANT SUPER NAWETTAN DELAY

The Gambia Football Federation was on Monday told by representatives of the 12 recognised GFF nawettan zones that the proposed start date for this year’s zonal championship, the Super Nawettan, of November 2, is not feasible.

The GFF had fixed the date in its new calendar published last week.

Speaking after a marathon meeting with the GFF, a representative from one of the zones told The Standard that almost all the zones lamented that they could not complete their regular nawettan programmes before November 2, the preferred date on the new GFF calendar.

“We made a strong case that more time should be given and wider consultations made before the GFF could come out with a calendar that is asking too much of a rush for a competition of this magnitude,” said another zonal representative.

He revealed that the GFF did not give a definite promise on whether a new date will be set for the commencement of the Super Nawettan but it is widely suggested that the event may now start by mid-November or even later.

“They have also asked us the members of the organising committee to go and meet and come out back to Football House with a concrete and definite stance on the issue,” the delegate said.

The Standard contacted Ebou Faye, the second vice president of the GFF on the outcome of the meeting but he only said the GFF will reveal the outcome of the meetings with zones once the talks are completed.
