Darboe says Barrow is impeachable for violation of constitution on Meet the People’s Tour‎

Main opposition UDP leader Ousainu Darboe has accused President Adama Barrow of turning his constitutionally mandated Meet the People’s Tour into an NPP campaign programme in violation of the law, adding that a serious parliament would have impeached him from office.

Darboe explained that the tour is a constitutional requirement intended to allow the president to engage directly with the people and respond to their challenges in areas like health, agriculture, farming, education, the economy and living conditions among others.

‎He however charged that President Barrow has turned these meetings into political rallies and openly campaigning for re-election.

‎”He is using the tour to fund the NPP campaign, wasting and squandering our resources. If we have a serious parliament, there will be impeachment proceedings against him for misusing our resources,” Darboe said in an interview with Eye Africa.

“All they talk about in these meetings is UDP and Ousainu Darboe instead of addressing the problems in the health sector, corruption and other problems. They even over spent the money allocated for the tour. Currently, they have spent D70 million when the tour has not even reached KM and Banjul,” Darboe alleged.

He said under a UDP government, only a maximum of D5 million would be requested for the tour and ‘we will use a very small delegation and will  enlighten  our people that it is not a UDP jamboree but a constitutional obligation and we would not want anyone to come there, putting on yellow colors or be shouting Baba-Baba.’’
