New roads transform Kiang Kabada

President Adama Barrow on Saturday, inaugurated the 91-kilometre Kiang Kabada Roads Project during a ceremony held in Sibito village.

The landmark infrastructure project, executed under EPC Lot 3, is fully funded by the Government of The Gambia. Constructed by China’s Longjian Construction under the supervision of the Pace-GAMECS joint venture, the new network features double surface dressing and streetlights designed to enhance rural connectivity and facilitate access to vital social services.

Speaking at the inauguration, President Barrow emphasised the transformative impact the improved road network will have on the region’s economic and social landscape.

He noted that the roads will bring farmers closer to commercial markets, significantly cut travel times for families and traders, and boost access to schools and health facilities. Furthermore, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to streamline the transport of agricultural produce while unlocking fresh opportunities for local enterprises and entrepreneurs.

Sulayman Sumareh, Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), assured attendees that the project was executed to rigorous benchmarks. He stated that the roads were built to high international standards, incorporating proper drainage culverts and modern road furniture to ensure long-term durability and safety.

The inauguration drew a wide cross-section of society, including regional leaders and enthusiastic community members who welcomed the development.

Ousman Jawo, a local youth leader, shared how the community had previously suffered from isolation.

”Fish sellers used to avoid our community due to the poor condition of our roads, but that has changed with the current development in our communities. With the advent of electricity, our youth no longer have to travel to urban centres to carry out certain works.”

Looking ahead, Jawo urged the government to consider additional infrastructure for the area, specifically requesting skills training centres and football fields within Kabada. Reaffirming the community’s support, Jawo assured the Gambian leader that residents are ready to vote for him massively to return him to the State House.
