By Maimuna Sey-Jawo Young Gambian Mum Fund charity (YGMF) Sunday presented baby items worth five thousand dalasi to the first born baby of 2017 at Serekunda clinic. According its members the charitable organisation is formed by various mothers from across the world both in the Gambia and abroad as well as in the sub region. Speaking shortly after the presentation, Isatou Badjie a senior community nurse (midwife) at the Serekunda clinic said: “We appreciate what the members of the young Gambian mums have done. We really appreciated this gesture in the sense that it puts a great smile on face of the mother. “This is the first time such a great gesture is coming to the hospital since I came here three years ago. So on that foregoing on behalf of the staff and management of the Serekunda clinic I say a big thank you to Young Gambian mum fund,” she said. Oley Faal a member of the Young Gambian mum funds charity said her organisation came to being through a face book page started by one Rabiyatu Ceesay with the aim of bringing together women from all walks of life towards making difference in society, especially to people faced with difficulties in their daily lives. “We are glad that for the first time our efforts have put a smile on someone’s face today. We are also very grateful to the staff of Serekunda hospital for opening their doors to us despite our short notice. I will also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the mother of the baby for appreciating our donation though it was not much,” she said. “As the group keep on gathering more Gambian women blessed with kids we started to share our experiences and through those experience sharing we decided to form Young Gambian mum fun with a basic intention of supporting young mothers who have difficulties, by providing them with baby oil, powders, clothes, among others,” she added. After receiving the items, Haja Sillah the mother of the new born baby thanked the young Gambian mums for putting a smile on her face. In a related development the initiative also presented thirty thousand dalasi to one Amie Sillah to take her three year-old child suffering from eye pain to Senegal for treatment. According to the organisation they came to know about the child’s illness through a face book post by the mother appealing for help to take her to Senegal for treatment.]]>
