Two schoolgirls, Isatou Drammeh and Adama Barry, who were forced into a car by so far unidentified men, have escaped from their captors and are now reunited with their families.
The two girls were reportedly travelling with their friend Awa Barry to Bilal Boarding School when a vehicle pulled up and unidentified individuals seized them.
Awa, however, managed to escape on the spot and rushed home to alert her family about the incident.
Speaking to The Standard, Bangally Drammeh, brother of Isatou, said the two girls were taken to Tanji, where they were held at an undisclosed location by their captors.
He explained that one of them, had an orange and a knife in her schoolbag and had intended to use the knife to peel the fruit. Upon realising that she still had the knife, she reportedly used it to cut the ropes with which they had been tied.
The two girls subsequently jumped over a fence and managed to escape. They later encountered a driver who offered them assistance and transported them to Yarambamba to be reunited with their families
The Standard also contacted Modou Musa Sisawo, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, who confirmed that the matter was under investigation at the Banjulinding Police Station.
