APRC extends alliance with NPP
APRC extends alliance with NPP

By Olimatou Coker

The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) led by National Assembly Speaker Fabakary Tombong Jatta (FTJ), on Sunday announced it will stay in its alliance with the governing National People’s Party (NPP), going into the December presidential election.

Addressing a press conference on the matter, Jatta said the decision to stay with the NPP is to promote continuity, peace, stability and development in The Gambia.

‘The partnership has contributed to political stability and infrastructure development over the past five years and I urge APRC supporters to once again rally behind President Barrow,” he said.

FTJ said the alliance, formed ahead of the 2021 presidential election, also helped secure President Barrow’s re-election and since then, APRC leaders have served in government and the National Assembly as part of the partnership.

With the December 5 presidential election approaching, Jatta said both parties have been jointly mobilising supporters across the country under the “Yaye Kompins” and APRC structures.

Political observers say the renewed alliance could strengthen President Barrow’s political base, particularly in areas considered strongholds of the APRC.

However the other faction of the party loyal to former president Jammeh, has accused FTJ and his team of betraying the party leader and selling the party to  President Barrow which they, the No -To –Alliance, will always resist.
