Gambia’s Covid-19 response coordinator resigns

Barely a month into his appointment, Alasan Senghore has resigned as the national coordinator for The Gambia government’s Covid-19 preparedness response programme.
According to a reliable source, Senghore who was appointed by President Adama Barrow in May tendered his resignation Monday.

It is not clear what triggered his resignation as the country’s Covid-19 cases are spiking. The Gambia registered 42 cases with 393 persons taken into quarantine, 14 active and 5 probable cases.

Mr Senghore is the secretary general of the Gambia Red Cross Society.
He was tasked to, among other things, to coordinate the work of all ministries, departments and agencies of the state and local and international partners involved in the fight against Covid-19.

Among his responsibilities was to provide technical assistance to the health ministry in facilitating responses during the Covid-19 emergency situations.
