Gov’t Denies Tampering With LG Commission Report

The Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice has rejected claims by Unite that the Local Government Commission of Inquiry Report was altered after submission to government, calling the allegation entirely false and deliberately calculated to bring disrepute to government.

In a press release responding to UNITE’s press conference of November 3, 2026, the Ministry said government did not in any way interfere with, amend, edit or alter anything in the report.

“The report was published as submitted by the Commission, without any changes, corrections or revisions by the government,” it said.

“The allegation is therefore false and misleading,” the Ministry stated. Unite has said the Commission’s letter to their leader outlining the nature of findings against him is far different  from what the Whitepaper has come up with suggesting the report must have been doctored.

The party also alleged that the report was not gazetted, unlike other commission reports in the past.

The Ministry dismissed that claim as well.

It confirmed that The Gambia Government White Paper on the Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Conduct of all Local Government Councils and for Connected Matters, 2026, and the Local Government Commission of Inquiry Report 2026, were gazetted on October 29 by the Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation in G.N No. 211/2026.

Copies were made available to the public on October 30, 2026,” the Ministry said.

It added that electronic versions were uploaded on the websites of the Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, and the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs to facilitate wider public access.

The Ministry said it remains firmly committed to transparency, adherence to due process, and the rule of law.

“The Government position is categorical: no alteration, no interference, gazetted on record. The ball is now in UNITE’s court to produce evidence of alteration, or withdraw the claim.”
