According to him, close to 1000 athletes in addition to teachers, fans and officials would attend this maiden provincial edition slated for Farafenni from this Friday March 14 to Sunday 16th.
Commenting on the preparations, Gomez said the initial concern about logistical problems has been largely overcome and the event is now expected to be smooth and successful.
The event will be graced by the presence of Basic Education Minister Fatou Lamin Faye among other ministers and senior education and government officials.
Meanwhile commentators have hinted that when successful, the foundation will be laid for future decentralization of the event, which in turn is expected to inspire development of sports infrastructure in the regions.
”This would become more necessary especially when access to the Independence stadium is not possible as it is the case now with the current repair work on the tracks,” one official noted.
