Masai Ujiri, the NBA championship-winning executive behind the Toronto Raptors’ historic 2019 victory and current president of the Dallas Mavericks, is set to visit The Gambia on November 7, 2026, for the unveiling of the Jimara Hope Basketball Court in the Upper River Region.

Recognised among TIME’s 100 most influential people in sports, Ujiri is one of Africa’s most prominent figures in global basketball. His influence extends beyond sports, having engaged with world leaders including former US president Barack Obama and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.

Through his Giants of Africa Foundation and a partnership with Gambian activist and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Jaha Dukureh and her companies, Jaapo Capital and Regenerative Hubs, the initiative brings international attention and investment to rural Gambia.

The new court marks the beginning of a broader vision to transform Jimara into a hub for youth development, education, sports and opportunity.

From the NBA’s biggest stage to rural Gambia, this is a significant moment for Jimara and Gambian youth.
