On the eastern side of the north extension of Beijing’s central axis, at No 9 Beichen East Road, Chaoyang District, stands a magnificent red landmark that seizes the soul of the Museum of the Communist Party of China.
As a journalist from The Gambia and proud Fellow of the China International Press Communication Centre, CIPCC, I had the profound honour to walk into this sacred hall. It is not a museum. It is the spiritual home of a century.
The construction of this monumental project began in September 2018 and was miraculously completed in May 2021. Officially opened in June 2021 as a precious gift ahead of the glorious centenary of the CPC. Its birth marked a new chapter in preserving the red memory and revolutionary spirit of the Chinese nation.
From afar, the architecture hits you. Solemn. Magnificent. Ingeniously shaped as the Chinese character “Gong” meaning “worker”. This is not accidental design.
It is a powerful political declaration: the CPC is forever the vanguard of the Chinese working class, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation. The Party comes from the people, takes root among the people, and serves the people wholeheartedly. That message is cast in steel and concrete.
Covering a total construction area of 147,000 square metres, it is a permanent and comprehensive exhibition hall — a grand palace of history dedicated to the glorious history of the CPC.
Stepping inside during our CIPCC-organised visit, I was moved to tears by history. More than 2,500 precious historical photos and over 4,500 sets of cultural relics are displayed, each telling a story of blood, faith, sacrifice and victory.
Following the great historical logic of China standing up, growing rich and becoming strong, the exhibitions panoramically present the magnificent century-long journey of the CPC.
It is a journey of unremitting struggle. A history of fearless sacrifice. A path of deep theoretical exploration. A firm commitment to benefiting the people. A spirit of continuous self-improvement. From the small red boat in Jiaxing to the giant ship leading the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation — every step is clearly engraved here for the world to see. No distortion. No denial. Just facts.
More than a museum, it is a national patriotic education demonstration base. It is the spiritual home for all 99 million CPC members. It is an important platform for promoting the Party’s glorious history and fine traditions. It is a bright and important window for the world to truly understand the CPC and the development of modern China — not through Western filters, but through China’s own truth.
As a foreign journalist from The Gambia, my visit organised made me understand why China is great. Why China is disciplined. Why China delivers.
This museum guides every visitor — Chinese and foreign to draw endless strength from the Party’s century-old struggle and to witness with their own eyes the great achievements of national rejuvenation under the wise leadership of the CPC.
It tells you one truth: Without the Communist Party, there would be no new China. Without the Communist Party, there would be no rejuvenation.
My heart will forever remain with this red beacon in Beijing.
