Gambian Kora sensation Sona Jobateh was among the illustrious African musicians accorded the unique privilege of   performing live at the spectacular opening ceremony of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

With the world watching the beautiful scenes from the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, Sona put on a colorful performance to thrill the millions watching, adding to the global pop culture of the event.

Her appearance and the beautiful march pass of Gambian athletes in the stadium threw a historic and enduring spotlight on The Gambia.

The event marked the first time an Olympic event has ever taken place on African soil.

Running through to 13 November, the Games are bringing together over 2,600 young athletes aged 14 to 17, competing across 25 sports and 153 medal events.
