14 VILLAGES VIE FOR LATE KEBBA JAMMEH TROPHY

Teams from 14 villages in Upper Baddibu have begun a special memorial tournament to celebrate the late Kebba Tamba Jammeh, a former Seyfo and parliamentarian for the area.

The tournament, organised by the Upper Baddibu Youth and Sports Development Association officially started on August with the family of the late respected Baddibu politician present  at the field. One of his sons, Alieu K Jammeh a former minister of sports and current Gambian ambassador to Sierra Leone, took the kick- off.

The Jammeh family is funding the tournament with a trophy, cash prizes, administrative costs as well as materials, like nets and balls.

In the opening encounter at the Illiassa football field, Illiassa drew Katchang 2-2 but Illiassa won all three points on appeal against an administrative error by Katchang.

The late Kebba Tamba Jammeh who died in the year 2000 was both a chief and member of parliament from 1963 to 82 representing the chiefs and was one time deputy speaker. In the 1992 general elections, he was elected on the PPP ticket for the Illiassa constituency at the same time he was parliamentary secretary of agriculture Mr Jammeh was credited for transforming the border town of  Farafenni to a modern hub in the North Bank Region. Himself a son of the late legendary Baddibu King Mama Tamba Jammeh, Kebba was one of the most respected first republic politicians.
