15 participants end training on procurement

By Maimuna Sey-Jawo The Gambia Public Procurement Authority GPPA through its European Union support project over the weekend has completed a two-day training on public procurement for 15 participants from the Accountant General’s Department, at a ceremony held at the Ocean Bay hotel in Bakau Cape Point. Speaking at the end of the training, Kebba Sallah, Director of the Gambia Public Procurement Authority said the training has been organized to boost accountants’ knowledge and more understanding of public procurement system. He said the next step training will target stakeholders from other institutions like finance, accountants, health and agriculture. He described the training as very important as the participants expressed satisfaction. He therefore urged them to implement what they have learned and share with colleagues at their offices. He thanked the European Union for funding this project, noting that this is the second phase. Momodou Lamin Bah, a participant, said the training is something they have requested from GPPA while describing public procurement as a very important area, noting almost 70% of Government expenditure goes through procurement. Bah described the training as very inter-active, effective and educative as they got the opportunity to ask questions and clarify certain misconceptions relating to procurement. At the end of the two days training, participants were awarded certificates.]]>
