The Niani district tribunal has recently fined two men, Ansu Sabally of Latri Kunda Sabiji and Hadim Sallah of Nema Kunku, for smuggling fifty-two (52) logs from Senegal without documents.
The district tribunal court was presided over by the district Chief Alh Pierre Bah.
The men were intercepted on 26 October 2017 while smuggling the logs each 2meters long.
They were then summoned by the Regional Forestry Officer in the Central River Region north Pa Demba Sigi Jeng. They were fined two thousand dalasi each in default six months imprisonment.
The district Chief Alh Pierre Bah called on the people of CRR north to stop cutting down trees and protect the forest against bush fire.
He warned that whoever cuts down trees without permit or sets fire in the forest will face the full force of the law.
