At least 200 families in Tallinding North recently received new beds and mattresses from The Gambia Canary Islands partnership to improve living conditions and restore dignity in the community.
The distribution was delivered last month through a cooperation initiative between the Office of the Honourable Councillor for Tallinding North, Baboucarr Mansally, and the Asociación Benéfica ONG Ser Humano, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
60 beds and mattresses were procured specifically for this project while a further 140 units were donated in Spain and shipped to The Gambia. According to the coordinators, all item went directly to families in Tallinding North.
“For many households, the donation marks a fundamental shift. Sleeping on the floor is replaced with proper bedding. It is a concrete step toward more dignified housing.”
Councillor Baboucarr Mansally and ONG Ser Humano led the coordination on the ground and in Spain to ensure the materials reached those who need them most.
The initiative was made possible with the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, whose commitment turned solidarity into tangible results for Gambian families.
“We thank the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for standing with the people of Tallinding North,” Mansally said. “This partnership proves that when cooperation is direct, it changes lives.”
ONG Ser Humano said the project reflects its core mission: international cooperation that puts people first. “Behind every bed is a collective effort by individuals and institutions in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria who chose to act,” the organisation stated.
Community leaders in Tallinding North welcomed the intervention and called for deeper cooperation between The Gambia and the Canary Islands.
Both Councillor Mansally and ONG Ser Humano reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the partnership and expanding cooperation projects that address basic needs in Tallinding North and beyond.
