3 DEATHS, 112 NEW CORONA CASES REPORTED

Three people have died from Covid-related diseases while 112 new cases have been reported in The Gambia.

According to the latest national situation report issued last evening, the deaths and infections occurred between 8th to 11th February. Of the three deaths, two are men and a woman aged 60, 67 and 80. ? “They all had comorbid conditions prior to manifesting symptoms similar to those of Covid-19,” the report issued by the Ministry of Health stated.

Since the confirmation of the first case of the disease on 16th March 2020, 4,414? cases have been recorded with 138 deaths and 3,901 recoveries.

Of these, 31 cases were recorded on the 8th, 72 on the 9th, 4 on the 10th and 5 on the 11th of February respectively.

About 51% of these got tested on account of being intending travellers? and the median age of the new cases is 40.

A total of 1,159 new laboratory test results were received from National Public Health Laboratories and Medical Research Council, Gambia.  Of these, the 112 new positive samples represented a 9.7% test positivity rate.

About 38 people were newly taken into hotel quarantine and 46 were discharged. Ten Covid-19 patients were newly discharged from treatment centres ?with an equal number currently on oxygen therapy. ?

Currently there are 74 people in hotel quarantine, with 375 active cases and a ?crude case-fatality ratio of 3.1%, the report stated. ?
