4 vie for GPU presidency

An unprecedented four candidates are seeking election as president of the Gambia Press Union, GPU, which goes to an elective congress for new executive today.
The five are Sheriff Bojang Jnr, Fatou Jaw Manneh, Pa Modou Faal and Modou Kanteh. Mustapha Darboe who initially announced his candidacy has now withdrawn. The winner will succeed Emil Touray who completed a second three-year term in office.
There is also an interesting race for the position of first vice president with Sainey Marenah challenging Halimatou Ceesay.
The position of secretary general is being competed by incumbent Saikou Jammeh and Aboubacar Saidykhan. The congress will also hold elections for the position of second vice president and assistant secretary general among other positions.
Meanwhile in a pacesetter, the four candidates took part in a debate on Wednesday with each addressing a large audience of journalists on their plans and objectives.
