Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara yesterday summoned defence lawyer Ibrahim Jallow representing second accused Sheikh Omar Jeng to appear before her and explain the reasons of his absence without notification to the court. The judge took this stand yesterday when the trial continued at the High Court of the NIA 9 charged with the murder of Solo Sandeng.
The judge said the lawyer was fond of absenting himself from court proceedings and ordered that his colleague and fellow defence lawyer, Dayo, too must attend court at the next sitting.
Meanwhile when the case was called the lead prosecutor Antouman Gaye informed the court that since the two defence counsel were not in court the trial cannot continue since the case is a murder trial.
Gaye reminded the court that the defence lawyers had ironically objected to the prosecution’s request for a two-week adjournment to allow a witness to fly from abroad, and yet they are absent from court without explanation.
The trial continues today.
