The Minister further lamented that 52 quality agriculturalists have been sacked by the former regime creating a huge deficiency in experience and capacity.

“That is why all our regional offices are dormant. But this new government is in the process of trying to re-engage them,” he said.

He assured that henceforth there will be no fear of wrongful dismissal, arrest or detention.

According to OJ, any government that believes in democracy and the rule of law should know that civil service must not be politicalized, adding that civil servants should be there to serve any government of the day.

Mr. Jallow explained that politicians are merely policy makers and the engine of government is the civil servants tasked with the implementation based on their qualifications. He said when the civil servants are made to fear they will lose confidence, “some will be scared to give correct information and the wrong policy will be made and that is why agriculture has been devastated over the past two decades.”

The tour continues.
