Dozens of Gambian migrants in the United States were yesterday deported to Banjul on board an American flight direct from US, impeccable sources told The Standard.
Reports of the arrival first surfaced on the Freedom newspaper and The Standard confirmed that close to three dozen or more Gambians were indeed on board the flight that landed at the Banjul International Airport yesterday.

A senior immigration official contacted by The Standard also confirmed the arrival of Gambian deportees but could not confirm the figure or the circumstances of their return.
It was reported that some 2000 Gambians in the US are on deportation order but could not be taken out because of lack of proper documentation allegedly because the former government had refused to accept them by issuing them with identities.
The US government retaliated by imposing a visa ban on Gambia government officials.
