The National Assembly Select Committee on Regional Government, Lands, Ombudsman and IEC has rejected Janjangbureh Area Council’s activity reports for its lack of financial responses.
The Council on Monday presented its activity report and financial statement for the year ending 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2015, containing series of adverse comments by the Auditor General including administrative lapses.
Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi, chairman of the Committee and NAM for Foni Kansala, said: “We advised that you should respond by Thursday 3rd March 2016, failing which we will finalise based on the information contained in the draft. It is more than four weeks and we did not receive any response from you. We therefore have no option but to finalise our management letter. We expect that all necessary steps would be taken to address the issues raised and we look forward to your full co-operation in this regard.”
Hon. Nyassi added that the response JAC sent was dated on 3 April 2016, “meaning it was one month behind the agreement they had with the auditor general and I had equally consulted with him to see whether there was any room for the JAC management to negotiate another deadline which was assured but the JAC management failed to come back to the auditor general.”
Chairman Nyassi stressed that he is disappointed. “We must have to change the manner in which we deliver services to the people we represent and I am putting it to you that we have concluded that we are not going to allow them to present their report in the first place talk less of considering it for adoption,” he said.
He asked them to go back with their report until such a time when they would communicate back to them to appear before the Committee.
