Asmerre Bangura, a 20-month-old infant of currently admitted at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul needs urgent help to respond to treatment.
The baby is the sixth child of her mother and has been admitted for the past 6 months suffering from congenital heart disease.

According to Dr. Abdou Gai, Medical Officer, the infant became experienced, on her first month of life, recurrent respiratory distress exacerbated by breast feeding, crying or episodes of upper respiratory tract infections.

Dr. Gai said the baby had two admissions for the same condition but symptoms keep recurring.
“This pregnancy was booked with no complications, delivered through spontaneous vaginal delivery at a health center and baby was doing well until about age one month when the symptoms started and she was not exclusively breast fed and is now on cereals and breast milk,” he stated.
