Gambia demolishes Sierra Leone 4-1
The Gambia U-17 team, the Baby Scorpions put up a dominant display to secure a 4-1 victory over Sierra Leone in the opening game of the Wafu-A Caf U-17 Afcon qualifying tournament in Senegal.
In the match played at The Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Dakar on Monday, the Baby Scorpions started with an early scare when Sierra Leone first scored in the third minute.
That provocation compelled Coach Yahya Manneh’s boys to sit up straight and tackle the menace and prospect of a defeat on the opening day.
They immediately put up a spirited comeback fight inspired by Alieu Saine, who scored twice from the penalty spot before Shariff Touray and substitute Muhammed Jatta completed a remarkable comeback for The Gambia.
The Gambia will return to action tomorrow, against Mauritania in the second group match.
