Sevilla beat Benfica on penalties to lift the title, the second biggest in European club competition.
Biri played for the Spanish team in the ’70s helping them to be promoted to top flight of the Spanish football where they have stayed to date.
In 1994, Sevilla invited Biri to a special function attended by other big names like Argentina’s Diego Maradona who also played for the team.
Asked how he felt about the Europa Cup victory Wednesday Biri jubilantly told The Standard: “I was joyful and emotional especially when you see people sitting in the stands named after me wearing caps bearing my name. This is a team which is still strong in my heart. It almost equals The Gambia winning a trophy for me.”
On how closely he follows Sevilla, Biri said he simply cannot forget Spain and for him Spain means Sevilla.
