Gambian wrestler Boy Bala will test his mettle on the big stage Saturday when he size up against Senegalese star Baye Mandiaye in a bout put together by Champion Sounds management, a top entertainment label in The Gambia.
The combat slated for Saturday at the Independence Stadium will have an additional celebrity touch to it.
Coming as the biggest meeting since last season the combat is already making waves in town especially after an excitement laden face-to-face bragging at Westfield Jokor Gardens.
Lamin Cham, manager and owner of Champions Sounds took delight at seeing young Gambians undertaking wrestling as a career. “Wrestling is not only our culture but it has now changed the lives of many people who would have otherwise lived a non-productive life” he said.
Cham promised to continue to work for the advancement of Gambian wrestling by staging more combats. He thanked his fellow operators in the field for a job well done.
Boy Bala’s selection for this Senegambia night came after memorable victories over Adidas and Begue. He however will seek to redeem his name following his defeat at the hands of Fisco.
Boy Bala is also a fierce contestant in the Mbapat style in which he recorded victories over Building, Boy Nyang, Bala Mara and Sanchez.
The last time Baye Mandiaye won in The Gambia was in 2013 when he defeated his compatriot Tapha Tine 2.
Meanwhile, a host of smaller combats are lined up for the day featuring the cream of Gambian raw talent in wrestling. They include: Mboran of Ibo town vs Soldier Bai and R13 of Saku-Ham-Ham of Nema vs Building of Saku Mbolo – Serekunda.
