Prosecution witness Captain Baboucarr Ngum, who was among the officers who arrested generals Umpa Mendy and Ansumana Tamba, has told the court martial yesterday that when the generals left with the former president, they were still serving the army. Ngum was testifying under cross-examination by the defence team led by Barrister U Achiebu.

He said when the two generals were leaving with the former president to Equatorial Guinea, he [Ngum] was standing at the foot of the aircraft with the then Chief of Defence Staff, Ousman Bargie.
However, he said he would not know whether the CDS forwarded all matters relating to the military to the Commander in-Chief.

He said the chain of command in the army is a very serious issue and a person might even be charged for bypassing his superior on matters relating to the military rules.
Ngum admitted when quizzed by the defence counsel that he attended series of trainings but that do not include intelligence.
Hearing resumes today.
