Children’s rights activists meet Interior minister

On 23rd May 2019, Institute for the Advancement of Children’s Rights (IACR) Founder and President Barrister Malick HB Jallow paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Honourable Ebrima Mballow. The purpose of the visit was to update the minister on the work and mandate of the IACR as well as engage him on enhancing track record of implementing laws pertaining to juvenile justice in The Gambia.

IACR acknowledges the commitment of the Ministry for the Interior, a frontline stakeholder in matters pertaining to children in conflict with the law, to ensure that the best interest of the child is paramount at all times as enshrined in the Children’s Act 2005.
Finally, IACR welcomes the assurance of Minister Mballow that the legal requirement for children to be kept separate from adults in detention and prison facilities has been implemented. The meeting was also attended by DeGaulle Gomez, IACR associate coordinator.
