Dasilami Lower Basic School in Jokadou District of the North Bank Region has taken delivery of vital educational materials, clothing and sporting gear courtesy of UK-based charity Sollihull Moors Foundation.

The package comprising books, shoes, bags, and football jerseys was inspired by previous years of charity work by a native of the village, Kaaba Gassama and British wife Jayne.
One instrumental individual behind the gesture Michelle Weston said: “We were all humbled by the warm welcome we received along with all the thanks and messages of gratitude from recipients of clothes and school supplies that had been shipped over in a container earlier this year.”

As part of Sollihull Moors Foundation’s support to worthy charities, Michelle disclosed that they were offered a massive donation of clothing that would easily cost in excess of 10,000 in the UK, adding that “this was an opportunity that they grasped knowing that the donations could be put to great use to the beneficiaries.”

Speaking on behalf of the students and staff of Dasilami LBS, senior teacher Lamin Fofana expressed heartfelt appreciation to the donors for putting smiles on the faces of the school children.

“These are highly essential materials that our students need to learn and perform well. We cherish this intervention. The parents of the students too will be relieved of the burden of having to buy books, pencils, shoes and bags,” said Mr Fofana.

The visit by the team of British philanthropists to Jokadou Dasilami was preceded by the presentation of football jerseys and friendly football matches between four local teams in Nema Jola Kunda, Kanifing Municipality.

Meanwhile, Michelle Weston said this was just the first of many donations of sportswear that has been sent, with the next shipment back in the UK packed, and ready to be sent in early 2020.
