Ecomig-Senegal death toll rises

The Senegalese authorities have confirmed the death of another soldier who sustained injuries during a clash between the Senegalese contingent of Ecomig and Casamance separatist movement MFDC. Earlier, the Senegalese army had reported they suffered two deaths.

A statement reported in Senegalese media said the unnamed soldier is a staff sergeant in the 3rd Battalion and came from Kolda.

He was part of the 5th Senegalese detachment of the ECOWAS mission in The Gambia. “Nine other soldiers remained missing since Monday and presumed to be captives of the MFDC rebels,” the public relations department of the Senegalese Army said.
