Another happy and blessed day has come upon Muslims as we celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday 28th July 2014. By the sheer grace and mercy of Allah the Almighty, we have been able to successfully fast the holy month of Ramadan, thus fulfilling the requirements of one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.

The objective of the commandments of Islam is the attainment of the highest standards of morality and spirituality. The perfect exemplar for humanity, Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) is described by the Holy Qur’an as the possessor of the highest moral excellences. The Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) describes high moral standards and modesty as distinctive features of Islam. The entire being of a Muslim should be reflection of these qualities. These cannot be achieved without the full realissation of our duties to Allah Almighty and our moral duties to humanity.

In words and actions, we should be moral and spiritual exemplars. Falsehood and cheating should not gain nearness to us. Let us observe the Islamic commandment of decency in dress code as this will protect the purity of morals and modesty in our societies. Every form of immorality must be shunned even after the month of Ramadan. Beauty of conduct should distinguish a Muslim. Service to the creation of Allah Almighty is the second branch of faith; faith is incomplete without it. The Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saw) said that the creation is the family of Allah Almighty; therefore they should be treated with love, humility, kindness and forgiveness. Allah Almighty does not show mercy to those who do not show mercy to others.

About our duties to Allah Almighty, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi (AS) writes, “Inculcate this belief [belief in Allah Almighty] in your hearts, giving to its implications and requirements the first and top most priority over all considerations…. By means of actions in the field of your daily life, with unflinching courage, show a steadfast loyalty in His way…. Give Him the first place, so that in heaven you should come to be reckoned His people… become entirely His, living wholly for His will and pleasure, for His sweet sake, hating everything impure and sinful; for indeed He is Holy”.

One of the objectives of the Holy month of Ramadan is for the rich to have an experience of the suffering of the poor by going through hunger and thirst for a number of hours. This should ignite the desire to serve the poor and needy because according the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW), it is through their efforts that the rich prosper. No society will attain peace without paying due consideration to the rights of the poor, weak and needy. Therefore, the poor and the needy should be served as a duty, not a favour.

As we celebrate this day, let us remember countries that are in disorder in our special prayers that Allah Almighty may establish peace and security in those countries.

On this blessed occasion, I convey to you all the salaam, prayers and EID MUBARAK of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V (ATBA), the Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad. On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at the Gambia, I extend our warm, humble and heartfelt salaam, prayers and EID MUBARAK to you all.

May Allah Almighty continue guiding and protecting us. May He fill our hearts with righteousness and enable our physical faculties to perform it. May He enable us witness many more Eid-ul-Fitr with firm faith and health. May He shower His choicest blessings, peace, prosperity and progress on our dear and beloved country, The Gambia. Ameen.

Wassalam
