Magistrate Dawda Jallow who presided over the case, made an order for the case to be transferred to the chief justice for reassignment while remanding Mr Badjie at the state central prison. He did not have a legal representative on his first day of appearance in court.

According to the bill of indictment filed by the police prosecutors, while serving as the head of the Gambian diplomatic mission in France, Mr Badjie intentionally failed to pursue with the French government the case of stolen 27,000 Euros equivalent to D1,134,000 by Faisal Bojang, an omission which prosecutors said was detrimental to the economy of The Gambia.

He was also accused of wilfully neglecting to perform his duty by pursuing the police declaration that the signature of the deputy head of the Gambian mission was forged.
