Ex-soldier’s family shocked by news of his death, demand justice

The family of Alieu Ceesay, the soldier who was supected to have been murdered alongside former Intelligence chief Daba Marenah  in the wake of the Ndure Cham foiled coup,  has expressed shock on news of his supposed death which they said they learned in the media last week.

Ceesay, who was 40 in 2006 was arrested alongside Marenah and others but shortly after, the government released a statemnet claiming they have escaped while been transferred to another prison.

However a few days ago, police charged some soldiers with the alledged killing of the men.
“We heard of the news of his death last Tuesday through the media. I must tell you the whole family is shocked when we heard that Alieu was alledgedly killed and thrown into a well somewhere in Foni,” Fatou Ceesay, the younger sister told The Standard.

She said the family has been entertaining the hope that he could have been alive as they never wanted to buy the runours that he might have been killed. “But with the news that he could have been killed devastated us all and we want justice now,” she demanded.

Fatou further disclosed that it was only a few days ago that the family held prayers for Alieu. “Now that his death is confirmed to us, all we want from the new government is justice,” Fatou concluded.
