FAR aims to drill a commitment well offshore The Gambia in the second half of this year. Preparations for the Bambo-1 well were curtailed last year, but the project is being reactivated, based on development of Covid-safe practices.

Most long-lead items for the well have been ordered and the Gambia National Environment Agency has approved the environmental and social impact assessment.

Exceed Energy will provide engineering and well management services, having previously supported FAR on the unsuccessful offshore Samo-1 well in 2018.

Subsurface studies that have focused on prospective resources in the A2/A5 blocks could be targeted by Bambo-1 well.

Processing has finished of existing 3D seismic data over A2 using full waveform inversion (FWI) for the depth modeling, leading to improved seismic imaging and more accurate depth interpretation.

In addition, various studies have been conducted on nearby wells to provide a more detailed understanding over A5.

The new FWI seismic dataset has been incorporated with the Samo-1, Jammah-1 and Sangomar well data sets, and has revealed additional reservoirs that Bambo-1 might test.
