Ding-Ding Yiriwaa Federation on Thursday donated 31,030 branded exercise books to its sponsored children across Kombo North and South.
The handing-over ceremony was held at the Federation Office in Jambanjelly.
Acting Federation Manager Buba Jatta said every book placed in a child’s hands opens a door to knowledge and opportunity.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to ChildFund, our major donor and valued partner. Without their generous support, this event would not have been possible. We sincerely thank them for their continued investment in the education and future of our children,” Jatta said.
“To our sponsored students — make good use of these books. Read them, learn from them, and take good care of them. Together, let us continue to invest in our children and build a brighter future,” he added.
Federation Representative Lamin Balajo said child protection is a shared responsibility.
“We are all gathered here because the environment is free from harm. We all feel protected and have the freedom to move and speak freely,” Balajo said.
He urged parents and guardians to ensure children protect the books from being torn or pages removed.
“I thank ChildFund The Gambia for standing by Ding-Ding Yiriwaa Federation in supporting communities and children in Kombo North and South,” he said.
Partnership Portfolio Specialist at ChildFund, Gallor Demba Bah, said the donation is timely as schools resume in weeks.
“This signifies our collective commitment to improving quality education and creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. ChildFund believes education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives, strengthening communities, and building a prosperous nation,” Bah said.
“Quality education can only be achieved when teachers and learners have access to adequate learning resources. These materials are more than books they are investments in knowledge, opportunity, and the future of our children,” he added.
West Coast Region NGO Affairs Officer Adam Jallow said the support brings relief and renewed motivation to learners.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Fatoumatta Daffeh thanked the Federation.
“Without their support some of us wouldn’t be able to afford this. This donation is huge for us. I call on fellow beneficiaries to make best use of the books for their rightful purpose. For us, each exercise book represents a fresh page — and perhaps the beginning of a brighter chapter,” Daffeh said.
