By Baba Sillah

The erstwhile managing director of Gamtel, Baboucarr Sanyang was yesterday summoned by the Janneh Commission to shed light on the contract between Gamtel and National Assembly among other matters relating to the company.

Mr Sanyang confirmed signing a subcontract with Mobicell amounting to $588,808.17; noting that it was the National Assembly that sought for the approval of GPPA for the contract to Gamtel.
He said he set up a team for the contract comprising officers from the customer services and technical departments of Gamtel, and they initially proposed to deploy Panasonic switch board to avoid interruption but the Panasonic switch board was not suitable for the service they requested.

Mr Sanyang said the team was headed by one Sarjo Khan including some members from the Switchboard System but he could not remember other members of the team.
He said they laid a fibre cable which supposed to handle both data and voice but it was later discovered that was not suitable for the services required and a Cisco platform was proposed to the assembly.
