Alhagie Kebba Manneh Memorial Foundation has recently donated football gears to Galaxy football club of Bakau and Fajara South football club.
The donation, which included one sets of jersey, three footballs and a cash amount of D2000 was handed-over to the teams at an event held at Sand Beach Hotel, Kololi.
The donation, according to AKMMF officials who recently organised a16- team tournament in memory of the late Alhagie Kebba Manneh is part of the Foundation’s support to sports development in the country.
Speaking shortly after the presentation the president of the Foundation Farimang Manneh said the Foundation was established mainly to empower young people and contribute to the reduction of irregular migration.
He said the Foundation did not only limit its support to sports, but to agriculture and health, “our goal is to support Gambian youth in the areas of sports, agriculture, health and other areas.”
“We are not only going to limit our support to teams in the Kombo’s but it will be extended to the entire country. We want to see Gambian youthS succeed and realize their dreams,” he said.
The 2nd Vice President Bakau Sports Committee, BSC Baddi Jaiteh said his association is working tireless to ensure the development of sports in Bakau, “We want to get back to where we were before.”
He commended the donors for their support to the development of football in Bakau, and urged them to extend their support to the BSC as well.
The representative of the Kanifing Mayor Kebba Hydra said giving the fact that sport is everyone’s business, “the importance of supporting its development cannot be overemphasized.”
He said though government is committed to the development of sports in the country, “they cannot do it all alone meaning they would need the support of other developmental partners.”
Meanwhile, the head Coach of Galaxy FC Lamin Jatta said the donated football gears will serve as a moral booster for his team.
