Addressing the nation on this rare achievement in Gambian football, Bajo said the award is an uplifting and heartwarming milestone at a time when Gambian football is having a new and better beginning.
“On behalf of the GFF executive committee, the past and present referees committees, staff of the GFF and the entire football fraternity we congratulate Papa Gassama and respectfully dedicate this historic and special award to His Excellency Sheikh Professor, Doctor Alhagie Yahya A.J.J.Jammeh, chief patron of the Gambia Football Federation whose contributions to football development is acknowledged, appreciated and celebrated,” Bajo said.
He added that the GFF have enjoyed and continue to enjoy an extraordinary and valuable support from sport loving President Jammeh whose motivation and guidance led to an exceptional performance of our athletes as well as the winning attitude of Bakary Papa Gassama.
Bajo said Bakary Papa Gassama’s hard work and abiding interest to excel on the global stage has made him a good ambassador for The Gambia while changing the history of Gambian football.
The GFF president went on to state that his leadership will draw inspiration from Gassama’s record and continue to recruit, train and prepare referees for future national and international assignments.
“As stated in my manifesto, substantial and tangible work has already started to create many more Bakary Papa Gassamas in Gambian football,” the GFF president said. He commended the Minister of Youths and Sports Alieu Jammeh and through him the government of The Gambia for the high level of support they have given to the GFF.
