“On behalf of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Chief patron of the Gambia Golf Association (GGA), the Committee and Members of GGA and on my own behalf, I wish Your Excellency and the First Family a blessed and prosperous New Year 2015 and also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Your Excellency and all Gambians on the 50th Independence Anniversary of our dear nation. We pray to the Almighty Allah (SWT) for a peaceful and successful Golden Jubilee celebration, as we reflect on the successes of the First Republic and the sustained accelerated pace of development that started in the Second Republic.

It is no coincidence that The Gambia has once again been recognised worldwide under Your Excellency’s leadership, with the recent achievement of the African Leaders’ Malaria Alliance Award. This award is no doubt a result of an integrated approach that included Operation Clean the Nation, a nationwide bed net distribution campaign and spraying of malaria breeding areas”.

The release continued:“This award follows on the recent one from the FAO, recognising the significant gains made in eradicating hunger in The Gambia over the last 20 years. Again, this award from the FAO is the result of a holistic and pragmatic approach to reducing hunger, as espoused in the underlying principles of Vision 2016, which were laid down by Your Excellency ages ago; such as, ‘Eat what you grow and grow what you Eat’; ‘Operation Feed Yourself’ and ‘Go Back to the land. Your Excellency, we join all Gambians and the rest of the world in condemning the cowardly terrorist attack that took place on 30th December 2014. Thanks to the Almighty Allah and the professionalism of loyal personnel of the security services, the insurgency was swiftly put down.

Please allow me to quote Friendrich Nietzsche – “that which does not kill us makes us stronger.” With all loyal and patriotic Gambians behind Your Excellency, we have emerged from this cowardly adventure more united and stronger than ever. Once again we wish to congratulate Your Excellency on the 50th Anniversary of our Independence and pray to the Almighty Allah (SWT) for Your Excellency’s continued good health, prosperity and wellbeing, as well as for the prosperity of all Gambians. We also pray for the peace and security we take for granted in The Gambia to prevail, as the country registers more development across all sectors, under Your Excellency’s stewardship and guidance.”
