'Reckless' driver remanded for allegedly causing death

One Katim Drammeh, a commercial driver, was yesterday remanded in custody by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul for allegedly causing the death of one Bakary Keita.

The suspect was alleged to driven a passenger vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner along the Banjul highway around the foam factory at 11am on 2 January, 2022 and caused the death of Bakary Keita.

The suspect, who had been on police bail, informed the court that he has no financial means to secure the services of a legal counsel.

The presiding judge, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh disclosed that the suspect is charged with a crime that carries life imprisonment and therefore directed the Principal Registrar of the High Court to transmit the bill of indictment to Legal Aid for representation.

He revoked his police bail and ordered that he be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prisons pending the hearing and determination of the charge against him.

The matter was adjourned to 25th January, 2022.
